Get ready to run, jog or walk for the 12th annual Jog for the Bog Trail Run, hosted by Burns Bog Conservation Society, taking place in just a few weeks! The 5km and 10km walk/run commencing at 8am on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Westview Park in Delta, British Columbia, is a great reason to get outdoors and support your local community in keeping BC healthy and green.
The annual event brings together hundreds of people from all over the lower mainland to raise awareness about the importance of your backyard peatland, Burns Bog, and to raise funds for the Society’s educational programs such as tours, summer day camps, books, and our newest work-in-progress, a Mobile Interpretive Centre, which brings the bog into the classroom. As supported in a recent UN report stating that the preservation and restoration of peat bogs can reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 10%, you too can contribute to a cleaner, greener environment for all by coming out to this event and supporting a local cause with a global impact.
Not only will you be doing your good deed for the day, but you will also have a great time doing it! As past participants Deborah Markle and Devin Manky of Wildlife Rescue Association gush, “A wonderful, well put together and well attended event… I didn’t expect so much entertainment.” So dust off those sneakers and make your way over to Westview Park for an afternoon of fun and excitement for the whole family featuring a scenic run or walk through the Nature Reserve, a free pancake breakfast, live music, and tons of prizes and free giveaways!
