Sorry for the Mailing Error!

A note from our President, Eliza Olson:

My apologies.

Canada Post requires that we have our mailing checked annually by a mail house in order for the Society to receive the reduced rates for mailing.

Something happened between our office and the mail house. Gremlins got in and attacked the list. “Valerie” became “Floyd” and “Susan” became “Joan,” and “Inger” became “Gerry!” Our apologies to all of you.

The good part is that so many of you have taken the time to let us know of the glitch. It means you are reading our information.

Thank you again for your understanding and we will do our best to not let it happen again!

Sincerely

Eliza Olson (aka Mavis!)
President

Do You Know What is Happening in Your Community?

Find out.

Attend the meeting TONIGHT and voice YOUR opinion.

A public information meeting is being held this evening, Sept 16, 2009 from 7 - 9pm at the Sunshine Woods Golf Centre (upstairs) located at 10646 - 64 Avenue in Delta.

Land designated for agriculture is being rezoned to develop an industrial/commercial business park.

Do you want to see even more green space paved over in your backyard? Come to the meeting. Speak up. Your opinion can make a difference.

It is being said that the current agriculture zoning is restricted to limited uses and would be better suited for commercial/business use. That is not true. The land can be used for farming, farmhousing, residential housing, processing natural agricultural products, housing a riding stable, veterinary clinic, shooting range, greenhouses, and other things.

Do you want more warehouses, office space, and restaurants in your neighborhood?

Or do you want to maintain the quickly diminishing green space?

The choice is yours.

Come to the meeting and voice your opinion.

Blog Under Construction

Thank you everyone for visiting our blog. It is still a work in progress so keep checking back for new updates.

Dust Off Your Sneakers to Jog for the Bog!

Get ready to run, jog or walk for the 12th annual Jog for the Bog Trail Run, hosted by Burns Bog Conservation Society, taking place in just a few weeks! The 5km and 10km walk/run commencing at 8am on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Westview Park in Delta, British Columbia, is a great reason to get outdoors and support your local community in keeping BC healthy and green.

The annual event brings together hundreds of people from all over the lower mainland to raise awareness about the importance of your backyard peatland, Burns Bog, and to raise funds for the Society’s educational programs such as tours, summer day camps, books, and our newest work-in-progress, a Mobile Interpretive Centre, which brings the bog into the classroom. As supported in a recent UN report stating that the preservation and restoration of peat bogs can reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 10%, you too can contribute to a cleaner, greener environment for all by coming out to this event and supporting a local cause with a global impact.

Not only will you be doing your good deed for the day, but you will also have a great time doing it! As past participants Deborah Markle and Devin Manky of Wildlife Rescue Association gush, “A wonderful, well put together and well attended event… I didn’t expect so much entertainment.” So dust off those sneakers and make your way over to Westview Park for an afternoon of fun and excitement for the whole family featuring a scenic run or walk through the Nature Reserve, a free pancake breakfast, live music, and tons of prizes and free giveaways!

To register or for further information about this most exciting event please visit our website at http://www.jogforthebog.org/, or contact the Events Coordinator Charles Konopski at 604-572-0373 or via emailing him at events@burnsbog.org. Vendors wishing to participate are also encouraged to contact us about displaying at the event for a nominal fee.
